We went on a school trip to the market and I made sure I took many pictures to share with you guys. Here they are.
It was so bitter cold out the day we went to the market. By the time we got back to school I couldn't feel my feet. But, it was worth it. As you can see there were so many amazing, fresh things for us to see and buy. This market is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. There are markets all over Paris and they are most commonly open on Sunday's. During our tour Chef bought breads, cheeses, and meats and then we went back to school and tried them all. It was 10am but we still had wine, of course. The last picture is my group, Group D. I think the market tour brought us all a little closer which was nice. It was one of my favorite things I have done in Paris and if any of you are visiting me I promise I'll take you to one!
Sunday Funday
Elana, Ali and I met these two brothers in our class named Dani and Lee who we've become really good friends with. They live in this amazing house with a kitchen that is unbelievable for Paris. We decided to take advantage of this and start doing Sunday dinners every week. Our first dinner was "Italian Family Dinner Night" courtesy of Ms. Italian herself, Ali Banks. She grew up in a very Italian family on Stanton Island where Sunday dinners were a family ritual so she was already experienced in them. We had an amazing meal. I'll let you see for yourself...
I guess you could say our first dinner was a major success. Can't wait for the next!
Class Dinner = Revelry
We had our first class dinner Tuesday night. It was really great. The food was delicious and it gave our whole class a chance to mingle and have some fun outside of school. They gave us a 3 course meal, champagne and wine. Two of our Chefs were there which was really nice. There's a boy in our class that has red hair and a rat tail... somehow in the mist of the dinner the Chef ended up cutting it off with a pair of kitchen sheers. Hilarious. The after party at the bar next door got a little wild but I'll leave the details out.. my Dad reads this blog.

Happy Birthday to Moi
The week ended with my birthday on Thursday. I had an awful cold so the day wasn't that eventful. We had class which was good because I got to see all my friends and cook. I'm pretty sure I got snot in my veal stock though.. oops. Chef liked it anyway! That night Ali and Elana took me to dinner and we had amazing burgers and fries and I got a smoothie that made my cold feel better. It was a really nice American meal and I loved it. My mom came on Friday and we spent the day together in bed... haha. I still felt sick and she was tired from the plane ride. We eventually made it out and went to the Eiffel Tower for dinner. It was such a great time. I'm so glad she came! I would post pictures but they are on my mom's computer and she is computer illiterate and hasn't added them to facebook yet. I'll post them when she gets on that in 4 months.
We had an amazing sunny day on Monday and I didn't have any class. I took advantage of it and went to the park behind my house and went running. It was so great. You could really feel the magic of Paris around you. Everyone was outside sitting on benches and reading or just people watching. Kids were riding bikes and rollerblading and older couples were walking. What I love most about Paris is that people take their time. They take time to sit and really enjoy their city and life. It's completely normal to sit at a park for hours and literally just sit. I love that. The rest of the day consisted of Elana, Ali and me walking around in the beautiful weather looking for a place to eat... Shocking. We had our hearts set on this pizza place but because it was 3pm it was closed. We weren't surprised. Everyone shuts down at about 3 and re opens for dinner. I have a love/hate for this concept. I hate it because I always find myself wanting to eat between the hours of 3 and 6 and nothing is open. But I love it because the reason they are closing is to go home and nap or to enjoy lunch themselves. It goes back to the taking time to enjoy life theory. They care less about the money they could make in those hours and more about relaxing and seeing family. America should take a hint from this.
So, instead of pizza we ate at a precious place that specialized in spreads in the Marias. The menu was set up so you ordered 4, 5, or 6 spreads and then a choice of pita, bread, or bagel. I had hummus, tzazki, marinated mushrooms, and roasted eggplant in tomato sauce with a bagel on the side. Delicious. I forgot my camera for this one. Sorry! Then we wanted to have a spa day but our plans fell through and we sat at a brasserie and drank wine instead. That night Elana and I watched what I think is the longest tv episode I have ever experienced of Top Chef. At least 2 1/2 hours long. Absurd. It was the French version and it was amazing. We're making a habit of watching it every Monday. Hopefully it'll have an impact on my french skills!
Anthony gets here tomorrow. I am beyond excited to see him! I have so many things planned he is probably going to be extremely overwhelmed with me.. but I don't care. First thing we are doing is going to my school party on Wednesday night which is open bar from 9pm til 2am. Enough said. Let the trouble begin!!

One of the delights of life is eating with friends, second to that is talking about eating. And, for an unsurpassed double whammy, there is talking about eating while you are eating with friends. -Laurie Colwin
This food quote reminds me of Kayla Blefko... my favorite person to eat with. And my new foodie friends here in Paris. It's nice to meet so many people who share my same passion. I'm thankful you guys are here, you know who you are.
XOXO, alex
A couple of things;
ReplyDelete1. That quote is precious, (and its amazing how much it means to me that i'm your fav person to eat with) and it really reminds me of you too. Love you and miss eating with you.
2.Who is the boy in the blue blazer? I'm in love.
3. Nice picture with your tongue out.
4. I want all of the cheese, bread and sea food from the market...shocking.
-I know i only said a couple which typically means 2. Sorry! Have fun with Anth today!
