et ainsi qu'il commence..

So, here I am. Paris, France.

I'm having a hard time keeping in touch with all of you in the States so I figured I would start a blog to keep you updated. Those of you who know me well know I'm probably going to misspell 80% of my words and there won't be a lot of profound statements. It's amazing that I'm even using capitalization. That being said... this is just for fun and to keep you informed on my adventures. So, get excited!

I named the blog "l'année de buerre" meaning the "year of butter" because everything we've made in school has literally a pound of butter in it.. in case you were wondering.

I've been here 16 days now. I'll try and recap everything that has happened since I landed on New Years day.

I found a place to live with an older Parisian couple. It's on the 2nd floor of an apartment. I have a small room with a bathroom. Which doesn't mean the toilet is in my room because Parisians are bizarre and put toilets separate. The wall paper is really pretty... as you can see. Also, I especially love the grass green lamp with the 60's flower attached. Don't you?

Luigi, a boy that goes to LCB also lives with me. He is studying pastry and is in his last 3 months. He's adorable and I love him.

I love school. It's really great. I have on average 21 hours a week. My schedule changes weekly which is kind of weird but it's fine. Sometimes I have class on Saturday's and sometimes I'll have a random Tuesday off. We have demo and practical classes. The demo is where the Chef stands up front and cooks about 3 different recipes for the class while we take notes. There are about 50 people in my basic cuisine class. Then we have our practical class where we are split into groups A, B, C, D and E. They all have about 10 people in them. I'm in group D.. obviously where they put the bad ass's. Then we all cook one of the recipes from the demo before. So far I have made rustic vegetable soup, fish stock, lemon sole fillets in white wine sauce, poached chicken (a whole chicken) with supreme sauce and rice "au gras", onion tart with anchovies and olives, quiche lorraine, and puff pastry with leeks and poached eggs with albufera sauce.

So, besides cooking and being in class constantly I am going out and having a little fun. Adam King and I have been hanging out a lot. It's really nice having him here. Sometimes we try and be really French and go sit at little cafe's and people watch. And he's taken me to some really great restaurants. One that had amazing falafels and this other place with great Indian food.

I've also been going out a little... shocking, I know. My new friends Bradlee and Kira took me out to L'arc one night which is a restaurant/bar with a club underneath. It was really fun but so expensive. A cosmo cost 15 euro. Absurd. I also went to this bar that served drinks with little sparklers in it with my friend Brian and last night my other friend Ali took me out with her Parisian roommate and we went to this really cool dive bar and then an Irish pub.

Alright, enough for now. It took me like 3 hours to post this one post so you better freaking love it. I miss you all and love you! Send me presents s'il vous plaît!
